What a Hedgehog Taught Me About Business

Have you ever held a hedgehog?

At our HQ team retreat this week, I booked a baby petting zoo as a live illustration of The Hedgehog Concept, which I shared with the team while presenting our 10-Year Vision, 3-Year Picture, and 1-Year Plan. I also shared our newly glowed up HQ Core Values (which I’ll be sharing with you soon on Founder Friday!).

Here’s the thing about hedgehogs in nature: They survive by doing one simple thing really well. When threatened, they curl into a ball to protect themselves. They don’t try to outrun or outsmart predators — they just stick to what they know works.

And fun fact — they’re also blind. They can’t see the world around them, but they can see the light at the end of the tunnel, their path to safety.

In business, The Hedgehog Concept is about identifying the one thing you can be the best at — and tuning out everything else. It’s a powerful tool to help you stay focused when new ideas are coming at you from every direction, or when the pressure to generate more quick revenue tries to distract you from your core purpose.

So, what’s our Hedgehog?

Creating a class experience that changes lives - or at the very least, makes life BETTER.

At DivaDance, we create spaces where people feel seen, supported, and celebrated — often for the first time in a long time. We give them the chance to experience confidence, connection, and a life-enhancing community.

The path to this? A DivaDance membership.

In the coming months, you'll see us double down on this Hedgehog, as we know that growing our membership base is not only the path to Confidence & Community for those members, it means financial abundance for our franchisees and a step closer to us becoming a beloved household name - all over the world - for all adults who love to dance.
