Slippery When Wet 🚧

I just hung up from a Zoom with a newly connected mentor. Our conversation centered around my interest in exploring outside capital options to fund our big vision of becoming a beloved household name all over the world.

I asked her, "What are some rookie mistakes you've seen Founders make?"

After sharing a few specific ones to watch out for, she dropped this truth:

"There's a reason for signs on the road like 'Falling Rock' and 'Slippery When Wet'—it's because someone experienced those before you got there and wanted to warn others who came after them. Nevertheless, people still drive those roads and sometimes experience the slippery road or the falling rocks that are simply unavoidable."

Her point was that I can’t avoid every challenge—but I can learn faster and recover smarter by listening to those who’ve been through it. The road isn’t less risky just because someone else has driven it… but their perspective might help me hit the brakes at the right moment—or know when to keep going, even when it’s rough.

This is your sign to ask your mentors questions like this, and if you don't have a mentor - get one so that you can at least know when it could be a sharp curve or low shoulder ahead! 🚧
